02 — Behind the work

The women behind the work.

Each session in this gallery belongs to a real person with a real reason for being here. These are a few of their stories.

  • Marijose Callender session

I have never felt so confident in myself until having this photo shoot. It's honestly the best thing I've ever done for myself. I've always lacked body confidence and thought I wasn't good enough… but that's completely changed now. Thank you for giving me a new sense of self-belief and showing me how beautiful I truly am. I've never been happier in my life, and I'll be encouraging women of all ages and walks of life — if you struggle with body confidence, Photo Nottingham is the place that will change how you see yourself.

  • Jacqueline Adams session

I struggled with hating my body for decades (down to others comments). But now I am so happy I took the plunge and did this shoot. One of the best decisions ever.

  • Sarah Kuster session

I hope it's okay for me to share something a little personal with you all today.

A few months ago, I did something I never thought I'd have the courage to do — and it completely changed how I see myself.

First, I want to say the biggest thank you to Sarah and Maria. Your kindness, encouragement, patience, and talent are truly something special. You've not only helped me step out of my comfort zone, but you've also helped me find myself again. You even gave me the confidence to conquer "the white room" — something I never imagined I'd do!

After ending my 25-year marriage, losing 7 stone, going through 2 emergency C-sections and 9 operations, I finally decided it was time to stop hiding, embrace my body, and celebrate what I've overcome. So I booked the photo shoot — not for anyone else, but purely for myself.

I honestly thought I'd keep it a secret. I planned to tuck the photos away where no one would ever see them. But when I saw them… something changed. I didn't just see photos. I saw strength. I saw survival. I saw me — smiling again.

So I share a few of them (but happy to share more). Not because I wanted to show off the end results (even though I'm over the moon with them!), but because I wanted to show that it's never too late to rediscover yourself.
